ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Sherry also known as SherryLou.

For the past few years, I’m constantly sharing my thoughts regarding mindset, intentions, choices and spending habits with friends and family.

Much to my surprise, my stories and opinions seem to become a source of inspiration for some.

And, in other instances, my friends and I share tips/techniques to improve our finances. Sharing our journey is helping everyone move forward.

So, here is my story…

Life has not always been easy. As a single mom, there were challenging times both financially and professionally. But, as I tell my daughters, everyone goes through something in their lifetime. What’s important is what you take away from the situation.

Don’t get me wrong, finding the courage to use my struggles as teachable moments was not an easy task. I guess wisdom does come with age (smile) because now that I am older, when I look back on those times, I realize those experiences were a part of my journey. I needed to travel that path to end up where I am today. Over time, I have learned to enjoy my journey, detours and all.

Learning the power of my thoughts and mindset…

In 2008, my challenges took me into the local bookstore where I picked up a copy of The Secret.

For some reason, I opened the book to Jack Canfield’s story. After reading his story, I continued to read the rest of the book. After reading the book, I watched the movie. After watching the movie, I began to research the Law of Attraction and the power of my thoughts. My AHA moment came when I realized that my current mindset was keeping me from moving forward.

Prior to that moment, I had always been one of those people who focused on the negative versus the positive in a situation. Always analyzing the worst-case scenario. That realization was life changing.

Now, when I feel as though negativity is beginning to consume me, I step away from the situation and allow my thoughts to focus on something that brings me joy. Like a GPS, I reroute myself back to something positive.

My goal is to keep negative thoughts, situations, and people out of my life, or at least minimize them…..trust me, it ain’t always easy.

In July 2019, this happened…

After years of talking about it, praying about it, and putting images/quotes on my visualization board, I was able to retire from Corporate America. Yep, I ditched the cubicle in 3rd quarter and started a new chapter. Leaving behind the memories of a 30+ year career in the financial services industry.

Now, I am on a mission to get more people to use money as a tool to live life by design NOT default. And, in my opinion, that journey starts with resetting your mindset, changing your money story and making intentional choices.

Following the tug on my heart….
After leaving Corporate America, I had to make a mindset shift. I had to shift from employee to business owner. From a bi-weekly paycheck earner to an irregular income earner.

I realized quickly that I would have to turn-off my autopilot. I needed to modify my spending, update my budget and start making intentional choices.

All of these changes would require me to take consistent action. All of these changes would require me to create new habits. Business owners’ habits.

From this transformation, the concept centered around M.I.C.A.H was born. Although I initially applied the concept to my role as a new business owner, I eventually started to utilize it with my finances.

Mindset, Intentional Choices, Actions, Habits.

The Vision…

My belief is…. you do not have to experience a situation personally to learn a lesson. If you can benefit from someone’s experiences, why wouldn’t you want to?

The premise behind this blog is to share my thoughts and experiences regarding spending, budgeting, choices, and mindset. I want to help you transform your money mindset, rewrite your money story and live life by design NOT default.
